About this position
The University of Antwerp is offering a full-time doctoral fellow position in Inclusive Leadership (HRM/Organizational Behavior) within the Department of Management of the Faculty of Business and Economics. This PhD opportunity is part of the research project “ALL ON BOARD! But are they really? The paradoxical impact of inclusive leadership on employees' citizenship and withdrawal behavior,” funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and led by Kim De Meulenaere.
The doctoral researcher will work on a dissertation in management, human resource management, and organizational behavior, with a specific focus on the complexities of inclusive leadership in diverse work environments. The project aims to examine both the positive and potentially negative effects of inclusive leadership: how leaders can foster belonging while still respecting employees’ unique identities. The role also involves collaborating with organizations for data collection, contributing to international academic collaboration, and participating in conferences, workshops, doctoral training, and additional research funding applications.
The position is based at the University of Antwerp, primarily at the City Campus, and includes a limited number of teaching and research support tasks. The university provides access to the Antwerp Doctoral School, courses, educational credit, and a stimulating research environment. Funding for the first three years of the PhD is secured, with the aim of supporting a full four-year doctorate subject to additional funding and positive yearly evaluation. The doctoral scholarship follows the BAP pay scales and includes extra allowances such as ecocheques, internet connectivity support, and commuting benefits.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Applied Economic Sciences, Socio-Economic Sciences, Social Sciences, Business Sciences, or an equivalent qualification, and demonstrate excellent academic performance. The university seeks candidates with strong integrity, creativity, collaboration skills, independent working habits, self-discipline, and the ambition to grow into an independent researcher. Experience with quantitative methods is considered an asset, and willingness to present at international conferences and undertake research stays abroad is expected.
The planned start date is 1 October 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Applications must be submitted via the University of Antwerp online recruitment portal by 17 August 2026 at midnight Brussels time, and should include a motivation letter in English and an academic CV.
