This PhD-level opening is part of a Horizon Europe research project in the Department of Computing, Faculty of Technology. The project focuses on generative AI for cyber protection and threat detection, including proactive AI-driven cybersecurity agents, adaptive threat intelligence correlation, generative anomaly detection, malware behavior analysis, vulnerability discovery, and red/blue team simulation.
Research topics include generative reasoning, multimodal analysis, binary embeddings, Transformer models, reinforcement learning, evolutionary computation, and fuzzing for vulnerability discovery. The role is embedded in an interdisciplinary team working with academic and industrial partners across Europe.
Eligibility highlights: MSc degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or Cybersecurity; strong background in cybersecurity or machine learning/LLMs; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong English communication skills; programming experience in Python, C++, or Rust; and interest in collaborative research with academia and industry. Applicants must have or obtain the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku. In exceptional cases, candidates who have nearly completed a relevant master's degree may be considered for a Research Assistant start.
Funding: Fully funded doctoral researcher position. Starting salary is typically about 2500–2700 euros/month depending on experience and qualifications. If appointed initially as Research Assistant, the average starting salary is about 2400 euros/month.
