About this position
Funded PhD opportunity at The University of Manchester in the Division of Musculoskeletal and Dermatological Sciences.
This project focuses on psoriasis, major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), cardiovascular risk prediction, epidemiology, biostatistics, medical statistics, pharmacoepidemiology, and data analysis. The research will examine whether people with psoriasis have increased cardiovascular risk, how biologic therapies may affect that risk, and how prediction tools such as QRISK3 perform in this population.
The PhD is supervised by Dr Oras Alabas, Dr Lianne Kearsley-Fleet, Dr J Sergeant, and Dr Richard Warren. The work will use systematic review and meta-analysis, the SAIL Databank, and the British Association of Dermatologists Biologics and Immunomodulators Register (BADBIR). Methods include propensity score approaches, competing risk analyses, multiple imputation, model development, and external validation.
Funding is provided by a Psoriasis Association research grant. The studentship starts in January 2027, lasts three years, covers tuition fees, and includes an annual stipend at UKRI rates. Total funding is stated as £100,000.
Eligibility: applicants should have, or be about to obtain, at least an upper second-class undergraduate degree in Statistics, Medicine, or Pharmacy. A relevant Masters degree and/or experience in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Pharmacoepidemiology, or Public Health is desirable.
How to apply: contact the primary supervisor first, then submit an online application through the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health Doctoral Academy website. Select PhD Epidemiology on the application form.
Deadline shown on the page: 15 October 2026.
