About this position
A 2-year funded postdoctoral position is available in the DATA team at the Département d’Informatique, École Normale Supérieure (ENS), Paris, within the ANR-funded MAGICALL project: Mathematics of generative models: an interdisciplinary analysis of loss function landscapes.
The project focuses on the theory and mathematical foundations of generative models, with particular emphasis on loss landscapes and high-dimensional learning. The DATA team develops foundational mathematical and algorithmic approaches for generative modeling and statistical inference, with broader interests in representation learning, privacy, and applications across physics, audio, vision, and neuroscience. The team is hosted at the Centre de Sciences des Données (CSD) and is connected to the PR[AI]RIE – Paris School of AI cluster.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Bruno Loureiro and Dr. Marylou Gabrié. Responsibilities include conducting research on generative models, participating in weekly seminars and team activities, and presenting results internally and at international venues.
Eligibility requires a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Theoretical Physics at the time of appointment. Applicants should ideally have a background in machine learning theory, high-dimensional probability, random matrix theory, or complex systems, together with strong communication and writing skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
The position is full-time (35 hours/week), temporary, and based in Paris, France. Funding is available for two years. Applications are considered until 2026-09-01. To apply, email the supervisors with a one-page research statement, a full academic CV, and the contact details of two referees.
