About this position
Philipps-Universität Marburg’s Microbes-for-Climate (M4C) program is advertising multiple research openings in microbiology, microbial metabolism, phylogenetics, synthetic biology, structural biology, photosynthesis, and related areas.
Openings include both postdoctoral and doctoral projects across the University of Marburg, the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, and one project hosted at the University of Münster. Research topics span the origin of metabolism, sugar phosphate libraries and enzyme discovery, archaeal carbon fixation pathways, fluorescence imaging in anaerobes, nucleotide cofactors and prebiotic chemistry, regulation of coenzyme A biosynthesis, closed-loop control for metabolic engineering, environmental regulation and evolution of alternative photosynthesis in cyanobacteria, and ancient two-component signaling in photosynthetic CO2 fixation.
Postdoctoral candidates should have a doctorate in computational phylogenetics or a closely related field for Project 1, or a PhD in organic synthesis/chemical biology for Project 2. Doctoral candidates generally need an MSc or equivalent degree in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, plant biology, structural biology, systems biology, or a related discipline, with project-specific experience in microbial metabolism, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, microscopy, microfluidics, bioinformatics, cryo-EM, or analytical chemistry.
Funding is provided as salaried employment: postdoctoral positions are paid at TV-H 13, 100%, while doctoral positions are typically paid at TV-L 13 or TV-H 13, 65% depending on the project. The application deadline is 20 August 2026.
Applicants must apply through the university job portal, choose one to three project numbers, and submit a motivation letter, CV, relevant certificates, and referee contact information.
