About this position
PhD opportunity at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT), based at the Institut de recherche sur les forêts (IRF) in Rouyn-Noranda, Canada.
The project focuses on carbon and biodiversity in old-growth boreal forests, with emphasis on carbon–biodiversity relationships in old-growth stands, deadwood and dendromicrohabitats, bryophyte and soil fungal communities using metabarcoding, and the recovery of old clearcuts (>50 years) toward old-growth characteristics.
Supervision is by Maxence Martin and Xavier Cavard. The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree in biology, ecology, forest sciences, or a related field, plus a strong interest in forest ecology, biodiversity, and fieldwork. Experience or interest in bryology or molecular biology is considered an asset. The post highlights curiosity, creativity, autonomy, and teamwork.
Funding includes a stipend of CAD 24,500 per year for 4 years. The start date is Winter or Fall 2027.
