Eligibility highlights: open to UK and international students via Manchester; Chinese nationals (Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong) should apply via Peking University. Applicants need a relevant 2:1 honours degree or equivalent, or a relevant 2:1 plus a Master’s degree at merit level. English language evidence is required, typically IELTS 6.5 overall with minimum sub-scores as stated in the advert. Peking University applicants must hold a master’s-level certificate at merit or distinction and complete CSCSE verification by September 2026.
Funding: fees are waived at both universities. Manchester-based students receive a UKRI-rate stipend (£21,805 for 2026/27) for up to two years, a flight allowance for travel to Peking, and a research training grant of up to £5000. Students based at Peking must secure China Link Scholarship funding for the Peking-based stipend, and successful CLS applicants are guaranteed accommodation at Peking University.
