About this position
PhD Research Fellow position in computer science / AI for energy informatics at the Department of Informatics (IFI), University of Oslo, within the Energy Informatics / ND Networks and Distributed Systems group.
The project is part of the Norwegian National AI Centre on AI for Decisions (aiD) and focuses on edge intelligence, multi-agent AI, game-theoretic decision making, optimization, explainable AI, privacy-preserving and computation-efficient methods, and compliance-by-design AI for energy systems. Application areas include demand response, transactive energy / peer-to-peer trading, renewable integration, and distribution grid resilience.
This is a fully funded full-time PhD position for 3 years, with a possible extension up to 4 years depending on candidate profile and teaching needs. The salary range is NOK 550,800–595,000. The work location is Oslo, Norway.
Eligibility highlights: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Computer Science, or another relevant discipline; a Master’s thesis; strong mathematical foundations in optimization and game theory; AI/ML background; knowledge of energy systems / energy informatics / edge intelligence; strong programming skills in Python, Java, C/C++, or equivalent; fluent English. Strong grades are expected, and the master’s thesis should normally be B or better in the Norwegian grading system.
