About this position

NHH Norwegian School of Economics is advertising 2 PhD Research Scholar positions in the Department of Business and Management Science in Bergen, Norway. The PhD specialisation has two tracks: Business Economics and Management Science. Research areas include business economics, industrial organisation, public finance, asset management, risk analysis, shipping economics, economics of natural resources, logistics, operations management, utilisation of natural resources, shipping, predictive modelling, and climate risk.

The programme is four-year fully funded and includes an annual salary of NOK 570,000 from August 2027, with possible higher pay for especially qualified applicants and annual adjustment. The position also includes research funds for travel, conference participation, and research stays abroad, plus career guidance, pedagogical training, and 25% time for teaching assistance or other career-promoting work.

Eligibility normally requires a five-year MSc in Economics and Business Administration or a comparable degree, with an average grade corresponding to at least B (4.0) in the Norwegian system. English proficiency is required via TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic, though exemptions apply for native English speakers or applicants with a qualifying Nordic or English-taught master’s degree. GMAT/GRE scores are strongly encouraged.

Applicants must submit degree certificates, transcripts, a statement of purpose, a 2000-4000 word research proposal, CV, and a list of publications or research activities. Funding details
