About this position

PhD opportunity at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble, France.

This opening is for a PhD Student- GATES position focused on the impact of mutations in MT-CO1, MT-CO2 and MT-CO3 on the structure of mitochondrial Complex IV and their role in chemoresistance in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).

The student will join the MXIS group at ESRF and the Institute for Advanced Biosciences at Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA). The project combines structural biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, transcriptomics, and mitochondrial phenotyping.

At ESRF, the work will use SAXS and cryo-EM to compare mutated and non-mutated mitochondrial systems, with attention to assembly state, heme/cofactor environments, and supercomplex organisation. At IAB, the project will study transcriptomic and functional effects before and after cytarabine treatment, including RNA-seq and pathways related to heme/iron metabolism, OXPHOS, redox stress, apoptosis, and ferroptosis.

Eligibility: a degree allowing enrolment for a PhD (MSc, Master 2 de Recherche, Laurea or equivalent) in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field. A background in molecular biology, structural biology, and bioinformatics is an advantage. English proficiency is required.

Funding/contract: 2-year time-limited contract, renewable for 1 year, with a salary range of 33.4K€ and relocation support to Grenoble.

How to apply: submit your application via the ESRF recruitment portal. For scientific questions, contact J. Mondet (JMondet@chu-grenoble.fr) or M. Soler-Lopez (solerlop@esrf.fr).
