About this position

Post-doctoral position at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, in Team No. 16: Medical Chemistry, Protein Biochemistry and Biocatalysis. The project is part of NCN OPUS 30 and focuses on the functional and structural characterization of predicted human oxygenases with an unusual Fe(II)-binding site.

The successful candidate will join a research environment at the interface of biochemistry, structural biology, and medicinal chemistry. The project aims to characterize the function, substrates, and structure of two unusual human dioxygenases related to cancer, and to use the findings, together with AI-based methods, to guide the development of selective inhibitory molecules for future cellular studies.

Research activities include recombinant production of the enzymes in bacterial cells, identification of natural substrates and reaction products using techniques such as NMR, MS, and plate reader-based activity assays, and three-dimensional structure determination using protein crystallography. Part of the work will be done with international collaborators, and the appointee may also spend time in an international collaborator’s laboratory.

The position is full-time, for 12 months with the possibility of extension, and the gross salary is around 11700 PLN per month. The role is funded by the National Science Centre, Poland, under OPUS 30. The postdoc is expected to devote 100% of working time to the project and to contribute to project meetings, publications, conference presentations, and student supervision.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related discipline, a publication record, experience in relevant protein, enzymology, and/or structural biology methods, and excellent English communication skills. The postdoc-specific mobility/independence conditions also apply: the PhD must be from a different institution than the employing one, or the candidate must meet the documented fellowship requirement stated in the call.

Applications should be emailed to rekrutacja@ichf.edu.pl by 25 August 2026 at 12:00 CEST. The email subject must include “Recruitment no46/2026”. Required documents are a cover letter, academic CV, list of scientific achievements, and a PhD certificate or equivalent proof of degree. Top candidates may be interviewed online or in person on 2–3 September 2026, and the result announcement is planned for 14 September 2026.
