Postdoc in Human-in-the-loop Software Engineering for Secure Software Supply Chains Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden

Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a postdoc position in Human-in-the-loop Software Engineering for Secure Software Supply Chains within the ShiftLeft project, a national initiative funded partly by WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program). The position is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, within the division of Interaction Design and Software Engineering.

The project addresses an important problem in modern software security: software systems increasingly depend on third-party libraries, packages, and frameworks, creating complex software supply chains that can introduce vulnerabilities. The postdoc will focus on the human-in-the-loop aspects of a self-adaptive security analysis platform that combines static and dynamic security analysis. Research questions include how to design an adaptive layer that changes which security results are shown depending on context, which human and contextual factors matter most (for example developer experience, stress, and expectations), and how to formally model those factors so the platform can adapt its output intelligently.

This is a salaried postdoc employment at Chalmers, not a purely scholarship-based award. The appointment is for two years full-time, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The role is embedded in a strong research environment with opportunities to collaborate with researchers working on cybersecurity, program analysis, software engineering, and related topics in the ShiftLeft project, including partner universities such as KTH, Linköping University, and Umeå University.

Applicants must hold, or be very close to holding, a doctoral degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent foreign degree by the time the employment decision is made. Strong English communication skills, independence, motivation, and strong analytical problem-solving ability are required. A documented research track record in a closely related area is also expected, and experience or aptitude for teaching is considered important. Recent PhD completion within the last three years is noted as particularly meritorious.

Work duties include conducting research, publishing in top conferences and journals, supervising master’s and/or PhD students to some extent, and potentially teaching at undergraduate or master’s level. The position is intended to be valuable preparation for future careers in academia, industry, or the public sector.
