About this position
Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a Postdoc in Mechatronics within the Department of Electrical Engineering, Division of Automatic Control, Automation and Mechatronics, in Gothenburg, Sweden. The project sits at the intersection of mechatronics, automatic control, transportation, and autonomous systems, with close collaboration with industry and road authorities.
The research focuses on evaluating collaborative algorithms for mixed traffic environments where different percentages of autonomous vehicles interact with human drivers. Using modelling, simulation, and optimization, the postdoc will study how cooperative functionality, traffic infrastructure, energy savings, traffic flow, and safety are affected. The work aims to identify the best conditions for real-world traffic tests and to prepare those tests together with industry partners.
The position is based in a strong interdisciplinary research environment covering communications, systems and control, signal processing, biomedical engineering, and electric power engineering. The group emphasizes sustainable and smart solutions, including autonomous vehicles, digitalisation, smart automation, and industrial competitiveness. The successful candidate will publish in journals, present at international conferences, and contribute to supervision of master's and/or PhD students as well as possible teaching at undergraduate and master's level.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent foreign degree by the employment decision date. Strong English communication skills, collaboration skills, and some teaching experience are expected. Recent PhD completion within the last three years is considered highly meritorious. Experience working with multiple partners, especially in the vehicle industry, is an advantage, and Swedish language skills are beneficial.
The appointment is a temporary full-time postdoctoral position for two years with a possible one-year extension. Physical presence throughout the employment is required, and a valid residence permit must be available by the start date. The application deadline is 2026-08-31. Applications must be submitted online in English as PDF files, including a CV with publications and teaching experience plus a personal letter outlining research background and future plans. Contact person: Prof. Jonas Sjöberg, jonas.sjoberg@chalmers.se.
