About this position

Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a postdoc in Nonlinear Power-Efficient Transmit Array Architecture within the Microwave Electronics Laboratory at MC2 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The project sits at the intersection of antenna design, circuit design, and signal processing. It focuses on developing novel nonlinear multi-antenna transmitters that improve bandwidth, energy efficiency, linearity, frequency performance, and power handling by exploiting antenna mutual coupling as a means of amplitude and load modulation. The work aims to challenge the traditional view of coupling as a drawback and instead use it to create a scalable transmitter architecture inspired by outphasing concepts such as Chireix, with the antenna aperture acting as the combining element.

The successful candidate will work in a complementary research team and contribute to the design of microwave components such as power amplifiers and antenna arrays, as well as the theoretical derivation of optimal feeding strategies for the individual amplifiers. The position is hosted at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, with access to advanced microwave measurement facilities at the Kollberg lab and to a strong research environment at MC2, which includes collaboration with Swedish and international partners and a large micro- and nanofabrication cleanroom.

The project is supported by collaboration agreements with semiconductor manufacturers, enabling fabrication in CMOS, GaAs, and GaN processes. The role includes independent research, publishing results, co-supervision of PhD students, and preparation of reports for funding agencies.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Applied Physics, or an equivalent field. Teaching experience and strong research potential are expected. Background in wireless systems, analog circuit design, microwave circuit design, and signal processing will strengthen the application.

This is a full-time temporary postdoc appointment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the appointment, and a valid residence permit must be shown by the start date if applicable.
