About this position

Postdoc opportunity in Rheology of Gluten-Free Products at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Netherlands.

This postdoctoral project sits in the Laboratory of Physics and Physical Chemistry of Foods and focuses on the rheology, microstructure, and modelling of complex food systems. The goal is to generate fundamental knowledge that can help develop gluten-free products with mechanical behavior and quality closer to wheat-based products.

The research combines nonlinear rheology, shear-induced normal force rheology, in situ visualization of microstructural evolution, and theoretical/constitutive modelling. You will work with natural dough and simplified model formulations to quantify structure–property relationships and translate the findings into formulation and product design criteria.

Typical duties include nonlinear rheology and normal force measurements on dough and model pastes, quantification and visualization of fine structure under deformation, modelling of rheological responses, and translating results into new formulation strategies.

Applicants should hold a PhD in physical chemistry, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or materials science. The post calls for strong experience in non-linear rheology and modelling of paste rheology, plus an interest in multidisciplinary research. English proficiency at C1 level is expected.

The position is a temporary one-year postdoc contract. WUR states a gross salary of €3,546–€5,538 per month for a full-time 38-hour week (scale 10), with a 0.89 FTE option discussed. Additional employee benefits include leave options, pension, and campus facilities.

To apply, use the application button on the vacancy page and submit a CV, motivation letter, and one recommendation letter. Applications are accepted until 2026-08-31. Internal candidates are preferred to apply before 2026-08-03.
