About this position
Chalmers University of Technology is recruiting a postdoc in simulation model development for climate-neutral waterborne transport on coastal and inland waterways at the Division of Marine Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The project combines marine technology, electrified shipping, ship energy systems modelling, hydrodynamics, ship motions analysis, battery performance, and life-cycle assessment. The successful candidate will develop route-specific simulation frameworks for coastal and inland vessels, study energy demand under shallow/confined waterways and winter conditions, and assess charging infrastructure and operational reliability for climate-neutral transport.
Required background includes a doctoral degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Computer Sciences, or an equivalent foreign degree; strong English communication; and good programming skills in Python and Matlab. Experience in ship energy systems modelling, ship motions analyses, and hydrodynamics-related research is required. Teaching experience is expected to some extent, and collaboration skills are emphasized. Recent PhD completion (within the last three years) and experience leading projects or presenting at major international conferences are considered meritorious.
The appointment is a temporary full-time postdoc for two years with a possible one-year extension. Chalmers offers employee benefits and a dynamic research environment in Gothenburg. The application must be submitted in English via the online form, with PDF attachments including a CV, publication list, teaching/pedagogical experience, and a personal letter. Applications sent by email or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Deadline: 2026-09-01.
