About this position

Postdoctoral researcher position in Theoretical Philosophy at Lund University, within the Department of Philosophy and the research group of Adam Koberinski. The project, What’s Next For Frontier Particle Physics?, is a three-year philosophical investigation into contemporary particle physics, with close links to the philosophy of physics, philosophy of science, philosophy of experimentation, and the foundations of theoretical physics.

The research focuses on three strands: (1) the foundations and interpretation of the Standard Model and effective field theory, (2) the methodology of theory construction and scientific progress in particle physics, and (3) the epistemology of experimental discovery strategies beyond traditional accelerators, including precision measurements, small-scale terrestrial experiments, cosmological observations, and the HIBEAM+NNBAR experiment at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund.

The position is full time for 3 years and is partly funded by the LMK foundation. It is a career-development post with substantial intellectual independence, collaboration with the PI, regular seminars, co-authored outputs, workshop organisation, public engagement, and some pedagogical training. Teaching and related duties may be included up to 20% of working time.

Eligibility highlights: a doctoral degree in philosophy of physics, philosophy of science, theoretical physics, or a closely related field; strong research competence in at least one of philosophy of physics, philosophy of experimentation, or particle physics; a strong publication record; ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team; and high proficiency in English. Preferred experience includes familiarity with the Standard Model/effective field theory, scientific realism and pragmatism, mentoring doctoral students, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Applications must be written in English and include a research plan, CV, doctoral degree certificate, publication list, and up to five publications. The deadline is 16 August 2026. The position is based in Lund, Sweden.
