About this position
Florida International University (FIU), in collaboration with the USDA-ARS Subtropical Horticulture Research Station (SHRS) in Miami, is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in Bioinformatics and Plant Genomics within the Conservation & Sustainable Horticulture Lab.
The position is centered on interdisciplinary research on fruit crop germplasm and the molecular mechanisms that support biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in economically and ecologically important plant species, especially avocado and mango. The work includes transcriptomics, genomics, gene expression analysis, metabolomics, plant hormone signaling, and integration of molecular and physiological data to address disease, salinity, drought, and temperature stress.
The appointment is based primarily at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus in Miami, with frequent travel to SHRS. The initial term is one year, with the possibility of extension. The role is available immediately and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until filled.
Eligibility highlights include a Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding, Horticulture, or a closely related field; the doctorate must have been awarded within five years of the start date; and applicants should have demonstrated experience in bioinformatics, genomics, transcriptomics, molecular biology, or related disciplines. A strong publication record and excellent communication skills are required. Applicants must also be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
To apply, submit a single PDF with a cover letter describing research experience, future interests, funding experience, and career goals, plus a current CV and contact information for at least three professional references. Email the package with the subject line FIU-USDA Postdoc to akhoddam@fiu.edu.
