About this position
Postdoctoral Associate / Research Scientist opportunity in systems neuroscience and/or neuroengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, in the Schwerdt lab within the Department of Bioengineering and the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition.
The lab studies basal ganglia circuits, dopamine neuromodulator dynamics, learning, decision making, and motor control, with a translational interest in Parkinson’s disease. Research uses rhesus monkeys, high-density electrophysiology (including Neuropixels), optical sensors/fiber photometry (e.g., Dlight), fast-scan cyclic voltammetry, custom sensing arrays, and interdisciplinary approaches spanning neurophysiology, behavior, computation, and clinical collaboration.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience, engineering, biology, psychology, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, motivation, and the ability to work independently are required. Competitive candidates will have experience with animal handling/surgeries, electrophysiology, neuroscience, behavioral training, MATLAB or Python, and data science/statistics/machine learning/modeling for neural data.
Funding includes a salary commensurate with experience, listed at about $60,000–$75,000, plus Pitt benefits such as health insurance, paid parental leave, retirement plans, and professional development support.
