About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity in cardiopulmonary physiology, exercise physiology, and human integrative physiology at the Precision Human Health Laboratory (PHHL), University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada.
The lab, led by Dr. Michael Stickland, studies mechanisms and treatments of exercise intolerance across clinical populations and uses exercise as a physiological stressor to better understand cardiopulmonary function. The advertised postdoctoral fellow will contribute to CIHR-funded projects on the cardiopulmonary complications of e-cigarettes in teens and young adults, as well as related work on COPD, dyspnea, pulmonary arterial hypertension, post-lung transplantation physiology, and peripheral exercise intolerance using NIRS-DCS.
This is an in-person, 2-year appointment based at North Campus Edmonton. The role is designed for recent or near-completion PhD graduates in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Human Physiology, or a closely related biomedical field. Strong experience with human physiological testing is preferred, especially CPET, metabolic carts, spirometry, vascular ultrasound, and clinical research with human participants.
The successful candidate will lead and support clinical trials, perform advanced physiological testing, analyze complex datasets, publish peer-reviewed papers, present at conferences, mentor students, and contribute to grant applications. The environment is described as collaborative, well-funded, and equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and clinical collaborators.
Funding details mention major CIHR support and opportunities to apply for external funding, but no stipend amount is listed. To apply, review the official University of Alberta careers posting and submit through the candidate experience portal before the deadline if one is provided on the job page.
