This postdoctoral opening focuses on dual-comb spectroscopy, laser spectroscopy, frequency-comb technology, ultrafast optics, remote sensing, and atmospheric sensing for climate research. The project aims to develop a broadband, high-resolution optical sensing platform for isotope-resolved measurements of greenhouse gases and other trace gases, with planned trials toward an optical sensing link between Zimmerwald Observatory and the Jungfraujoch High Altitude Research Station in the Swiss Alps.

The successful candidate will define the sensing strategy with collaborators, build a dual-comb spectroscopy prototype, validate and benchmark the system using calibrated gas samples, and plan initial open-path field tests. The work is highly interdisciplinary and connects laser physics, isotope science, cloud dynamics, atmospheric dynamics, and climate research.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in physics, photonics, optical engineering, atmospheric physics, or a related field; strong experimental background in ultrafast optics, laser spectroscopy, frequency-comb technology, remote sensing, or related areas; independence; excellent project management skills; and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary climate research. Experience with dual-comb spectroscopy, nonlinear frequency conversion, free-space optical links, atmospheric sensing, or field-deployed instrumentation is an advantage.

Funding and conditions: 100% employment for 2 years, with a competitive gross annual salary in the range of CHF 91,000–103,000 according to Canton of Bern regulations.
