About this position

Postdoctoral position in Plant Evolutionary Genomics and Pangenomics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Department of Plant Biology, in Uppsala, Sweden.

The Yant Lab is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on plant evolutionary genomics, population genomics, and pangenomics in European ash (Fraxinus excelsior). The project is funded by a Formas grant and aims to help restore ash populations threatened by ash dieback by building the first Swedish-focused European ash pangenome.

The research combines long-read genome assemblies, population-scale sequencing, graph-based pangenomics, structural variant discovery, GWAS, genotype-environment association, and evolutionary genomics. The successful candidate will work with collaborators at SLU, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and other European partners.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in botany, evolutionary biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, plant biology, or a related field; strong publication record; ability to conduct independent research; excellent English; experience with Python, Linux, HPC, population genomics, and association analyses is expected. Long-read sequencing and plant genomics experience are advantageous.

Employment: temporary appointment for 24 months, full-time, with possible extension. Deadline: 31 August 2026. Start date: 1 November 2026.

How to apply: Submit your application via the SLU recruitment portal using the Apply/Login button on the vacancy page before the deadline.
