About this position

ETH Zurich is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for an interdisciplinary coordination role within NCCR CLIM+, focused on "Storylines of climate extreme events". The position sits at the interface of climate science, adaptation, and transdisciplinary research, and is supervised by Prof. Sonia I. Seneviratne and Prof. David Bresch.

The project is part of the NCCR CLIM+ programme and the NCCR CLIM+ Management Center at ETH Zurich. NCCR CLIM+ supports Switzerland’s transition toward a climate-resilient society and aims to connect scientific research with stakeholders to generate actionable climate knowledge. The programme emphasizes exchange, training, and collaboration across disciplines, making this postdoctoral opportunity especially relevant for researchers interested in bridging natural sciences, social sciences, policy, and societal impact.

The main task of the position is to support coordination and integration across several storylines dealing with climate extremes, including financial stability and supply chains, heat and health, and climate tipping points and abrupt changes. The successful candidate will contribute to inter- and transdisciplinary exchange, help select appropriate methods for scientific and transdisciplinary integration, and work closely with a diverse team of natural scientists, social scientists, and transdisciplinary researchers. The role also includes publishing results in scientific journals and presenting findings at national and international conferences.

The first phase of the appointment is planned for 3.5 years, starting on 1 November 2026 or by agreement. The contract is issued on a one-year basis with the possibility of renewal. Salary follows ETH Zurich regulations, and a part-time arrangement such as 80% may be considered for candidates with child- or family-care responsibilities or other concurrent commitments.

Applicants should hold a PhD in climate science, environmental sciences, meteorology, or a closely related field. Experience in inter- or transdisciplinary research is important, and the team welcomes candidates eager to fully engage in both. Helpful additional experience includes climate modeling, processing climate model data, climate attribution, climate projections, and knowledge of climate-related financial, health, or tipping-point impacts. Strong English communication skills are required, and knowledge of a Swiss national language is desirable. The position can be filled at junior or senior postdoctoral level, and is particularly suited to researchers interested in leadership, project development, and the science-policy-society interface.

ETH Zurich offers an international and supportive environment with opportunities for conferences, workshops, training, network-building, and professional development. Diversity and sustainability are emphasized as core values. Applications must be submitted online through the ETH Zurich portal only; email and postal applications are not accepted.

Application deadline: 31 August 2026. Interviews are planned for September 2026.
