Michigan Technological University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate / Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering. The position is based in Houghton, Michigan, and is hosted by the Computing and Robotic Construction Laboratory.
The research focus is highly interdisciplinary and sits at the intersection of construction automation, artificial intelligence, robotics, sensing, data analytics, cyberinfrastructure, and digital construction technologies. The successful candidate will contribute to projects aimed at improving construction safety, productivity, quality, workforce development, human-technology interaction, and intelligent infrastructure management.
Responsibilities include conducting research, preparing journal and conference papers, technical reports, and presentations, supporting proposal development and future funding opportunities, mentoring students, and collaborating with faculty, industry, community, and other research partners.
Applicants should have a PhD in construction engineering, civil engineering, computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, data science, information science, or a closely related field. Strong experience in research related to automation, AI, robotics, sensing, digital construction, or infrastructure systems is expected. Programming and technical skills in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, ROS, JavaScript, R, or similar tools are highly desirable. The post also values strong writing, analytical, teamwork, and independent research abilities.
Funding details: the position is a full-time appointment with a salary of USD 58,000–60,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. The role is contingent on external funding and is offered for a 12-month term.
