About this position
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in HPC system architecture and intelligent storage design within the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS), Technology Integration group.
The position focuses on research and development for scalable storage and memory architectures, telemetry-driven system optimization, and application-driven performance analysis for high-performance computing, scientific AI, and scientific edge computing.
Research interests include telemetry collection and analysis for workload characterization and predictive fault tolerance, architectural exploration of DDR and HBM memory systems, and redesign of storage systems for AI/ML and edge-to-HPC workflows.
Responsibilities include collaborating on data and storage research projects, characterizing I/O and storage performance, analyzing telemetry data, exploring mixed-memory trade-offs, designing composable and user-configurable storage systems, and coauthoring publications and technical reports.
Eligibility: a PhD in computer science, engineering, or a relevant area; a research track record in HPC/AI/edge systems and storage research within the past five years; completion of all degree requirements before appointment; and ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
Funding: the appointment is up to 24 months with possible extension, subject to performance and funding availability. ORNL notes competitive pay, benefits, and relocation assistance.
