About this position

Kingston University London is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the Mapping Futures 2: Reframing Environmental Science Pathways in Further Education project. This is a NERC-funded research role based in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and the Environment at Kingston University.

The project explores how environmental science pathways are understood and experienced by young adults in Further Education, with a strong focus on making these routes more accessible and relevant. A distinctive feature of the project is its attention to neurodivergence, inclusive learning environments, and communication practices. The work combines participatory engagement, creative workshops, residential fieldwork, scoping reviews, ethics and data governance, qualitative and mixed-methods data collection, analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and preparation of outputs.

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day delivery of the project and work closely with young adult participants, education providers, and community partners. The role is well suited to researchers with interests in education, inclusive pedagogy, youth engagement, neurodiversity research, environmental education, and related interdisciplinary approaches. Experience with intersectionality, creative or arts-based methods, and field-based learning would be an advantage.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent strong research experience in a relevant field, plus experience in qualitative and/or mixed-methods research and evaluation. Strong organisational skills, safeguarding awareness, collaborative working, and the ability to translate findings into practical outputs for education, policy, and wider audiences are important. Candidates must be able to demonstrate eligibility to work in the UK.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 24 months with a starting salary of £45,025 per annum and a salary range up to £48,820. Interviews are expected in September 2026. The closing date is 2026-08-16.
