About this position

Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is inviting applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship under the AFRICAI-RI Project.

The fellowship supports research on artificial intelligence, federated learning, and medical imaging for diagnosing major respiratory diseases, including tuberculosis and pneumonia. The successful fellow will join an international consortium building Africa's first federated medical imaging infrastructure and will receive multidisciplinary research and professional development training.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must be a national of a Sub-Saharan African country and hold a PhD, or expect to complete one by September 2026, in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field. Strong Python programming skills, experience with deep learning and data science workflows, research experience, and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams are required.

Funding: annual stipend of £25,000, accommodation, annual return airfare for personal leave, relocation and visa support where applicable, contribution toward children's school fees when relocation is required, a laptop, and support for conference and consortium meeting attendance.
