About this position
Pennsylvania State University is advertising a Postdoctoral Scholar position in computational studies of flow in porous media at the pore scale. The work is based at Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania, United States, and is led by Dr. Luis Ayala (Head of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering) and Dr. Zuleima Karpyn (EMS Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research).
The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research in pore-scale computational modeling, developing, testing, and deploying simulation models for flow in porous media in conventional and unconventional formations. The project emphasizes coupled physics, validation against laboratory experiments, and collaboration with researchers at Penn State and other institutions.
Academic background: applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline or a related field. Preferred experience includes strong written and oral communication skills, excellent computational skills, and substantial programming and CFD software experience, especially with OpenFOAM and COMSOL Multiphysics. Experience in reservoir engineering and phase-field modeling is also desirable.
Funding: the position is funded for one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of renewal depending on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding. This is a full-time postdoctoral appointment with benefits.
How to apply: external applicants should use the Workday application link and submit an application letter, CV, research statement, and contact details for three referees. Current Penn State employees and students must apply internally through Workday.
Timing: review of applications begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.
