About this position

Postdoctoral Scholar in Pain Neuroscience and Pharmacology at the University of Iowa

The Araldi Lab in the Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology, Carver College of Medicine, is recruiting a postdoctoral scholar to study the transition from acute to chronic pain. Research themes include aging, neuropathic pain, chronic opioid use, and stress, using complementary rodent and human translational approaches.

This is a full-time postdoctoral opening with a salary that follows the current NIH postdoctoral stipend scale and is commensurate with experience. The position emphasizes high-impact publication opportunities, structured mentorship in manuscript preparation, career development, and preparation for the academic job market. Trainees are also encouraged to pursue fellowship or career development funding early in the postdoctoral period.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field. Required experience includes preclinical pain models, behavioral assays for evoked and spontaneous pain (such as Randall-Selitto, von Frey, Hargreaves, and weight-bearing tests), molecular biology methods (Western blotting, PCR, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence), and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) isolation and analysis. Experience with GraphPad Prism or R, catch-clamp recording, and Ca2+ imaging is desirable.

Applications must be submitted online and should include a CV, a letter of interest, and contact information for three references. The posting advertises until 2026-08-24.

Institution: University of Iowa. Location: Iowa City, Iowa, United States.
