About this position
Postdoctoral Scientist position at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig, Germany, in the department PAIN led by Prof. Sampurna Chakrabarti. This is a highly interdisciplinary postdoc focused on proteomics, single-cell / spatial proteomics, neurobiology, and infectious disease research.
The project investigates pain mechanisms in infection, especially in herpes virus-related infection, with emphasis on host-pathogen interactions at the single-cell level and neuronal hyperexcitability. Methods mentioned include electrophysiology, behavioral assays, cell culture, proteomics, single-cell sorting workflows, mass spectrometry, high-resolution microscopy, and next-generation sequencing. The work is a close collaboration with Dr. Fabian Coscia at the Max Delbrück Center (MDC), Berlin, using Deep Visual Proteomics (DVP).
The successful candidate will have access to both laboratories and state-of-the-art instrumentation, and is expected to spend time at both institutions. The post is suitable for someone with a PhD in biology or a related field, strong proteomics data analysis skills, and an interest in neurobiology and collaborative research.
Funding: salaried postdoctoral employment, initially for two years, graded at E 13 TV EntGO Bund, 39 hours/week. Additional public service benefits are mentioned. This is not a scholarship.
How to apply: submit your application through the HZI career portal. Include a cover letter, CV, references, certificates, and optionally work samples or reference projects. The closing date is 2026-09-04.
