About this position

IRB Barcelona is advertising a Predoctoral Researcher position in the Innate Immune Biology Lab led by Dr. Stefanie Wculek in Barcelona, Spain. This is a PhD-level opening focused on immunology, immunometabolism, biomedicine, biology, and bioinformatics.

The project will investigate the immunometabolism of neutrophils in health, obesity, and metabolic diseases. The work includes transcriptomic, proteomic, epigenetic, and metabolic assays, with opportunities to learn advanced techniques and collaborate with a bioinformatics unit.

Responsibilities include developing a research project under PI supervision, planning and performing experiments, recording and interpreting results, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and external collaborators, contributing to publications and presentations, and supporting lab protocols and maintenance.

Eligibility highlights include a degree by 30/09/2026: either a Spanish/EHEA 300 ECTS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, Immunology or related fields with 60 ECTS at master level, or a non-EHEA degree that grants access to PhD studies in Spain in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Medicine or related areas. Applicants should also have prior research experience, knowledge in biomedicine/biosciences/immunology, creativity, motivation, teamwork skills, and excellent English.

The contract is full-time under Spanish legislation and includes a competitive salary, Spanish Social Security benefits, training opportunities, and relocation support for visa/admin matters. Deadline: 31 August 2026 (may be extended if no suitable candidate is found).

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
