About this position
Pennsylvania State University is advertising a Quantum Frontiers Postdoctoral Scholar position in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST), based in State College, Pennsylvania, United States. This specific opening is the Quantum + Security track, designed to advance research at the intersection of quantum computing, cybersecurity, secure systems, trustworthy AI, cryptography, and quantum networking.
The postdoctoral scholar will work on interdisciplinary topics such as security of quantum algorithms, quantum software, and quantum networks; quantum-safe cybersecurity for critical infrastructure; AI-enabled cyber defense in quantum and post-quantum contexts; and trustworthy, resilient, policy-aware security systems for emerging quantum technologies. The role is intended to strengthen Penn State’s research leadership in the quantum–security nexus and may involve collaboration with the Penn State Quantum Hub, the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, and the National Security Institute.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the start date in computer science, cybersecurity, electrical and computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or a closely related field. The strongest candidates will have a computing-oriented research profile, especially in cybersecurity, cryptography or post-quantum cryptography, quantum computing or quantum information, secure systems and software, AI for cybersecurity, critical infrastructure security, or related policy/governance areas. Interdisciplinary experience is welcomed.
Funding and appointment: This is a full-time postdoctoral appointment with standard university benefits, including medical insurance. The initial term is discussed during the interview process, and continuation depends on university need, performance, and/or funding availability. The anticipated start date is early Fall 2026, with possible earlier start.
