PhD opportunities are open at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in the Faculty of Biology , within the Muscle Biology Lab led by Associate Professor Shenhav Shemer . The lab is recruiting outstanding PhD students and exceptional MSc students to work on questions at the interface of healthy aging , space biology , mechanobiology , metabolism , regenerative medicine , and bioengineering . The research focuses on how skeletal muscle senses mechanical and metabolic stress, why muscle wasting occurs in aging, disease, disuse, microgravity, and during GLP-1 therapy, and how these processes can be prevented. Methods mentioned include molecular biology , advanced microscopy , human stem-cell models , extracellular vesicles , animal models , and simulated microgravity . The lab also aims to develop next-generation functional proteins and nutritional strategies to promote muscle health.
