PhD in 3D-μEIT for organoid development and disease progression at imec / KU Leuven

imec and KU Leuven are inviting applications for a PhD position focused on 3D micro-electrical impedance tomography (3D-μEIT) for dynamic, label-free, non-invasive tracking of organoid development and disease progression . The project sits at the intersection of Biomedical Engineering , Biology , Medical Science , Electrical Engineering , and computational analysis. The successful candidate will work on a newly developed 3D-μEIT platform to monitor biological dynamics in tissue-engineered constructs, spheroids, and organoids, with applications in selected disease models. Research themes include stem cell biology, differentiation protocols, organoid culture and characterization, 3D bioimaging, signal and systems theory, and computational modeling using MATLAB or Python . The role is described as 90% experimental and 10% literature-based, with training provided in qPCR, cell viability and proliferation assays, ELISA, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, system optimization, and image-based data analysis. The position is supervised by Liesbet Lagae (KU Leuven), with daily advising by Yoke Chin Chai and Babu Linkoon Meenaketan . The work will be carried out in a multidisciplinary team with expertise in MEMS design, electrochemistry, electromagnetics, microfluidics, and stem cell biology, and with access to imec’s research infrastructure. Required background includes Bioengineering , Biomedical Engineering , or Biomedical Sciences . The post does not specify stipend amount, tuition coverage, or a deadline in the text provided.
