About this position

ANZMAC is sharing a fully funded joint PhD scholarship between the University of Melbourne and KU Leuven for two doctoral candidates working on AI, GenAI, service innovation, marketing, and organizational strategy.

The project asks why some GenAI initiatives fail and what helps them succeed, with a strong focus on customer service, AI implementation gaps, organizational capabilities, human employee roles, reskilling, and the impact of AI adoption on firm value. This is a research opportunity at the intersection of Business, Management, Marketing, and Computer Science / Information Technology.

What is offered includes a four-year fully funded, tax-free PhD scholarship, tuition fee waiver, health and travel insurance, relocation allowance, and an international joint-PhD experience across two leading institutions. Students will spend at least 12 months and up to 2 years at the partner university.

Supervision is by Prof. Liliana Bove (University of Melbourne), Prof. Yves Van Vaerenbergh (KU Leuven), and Prof. Bart Larivière (KU Leuven). The post highlights access to top scholars and AI research hubs, with potential for high-impact academic publication and industry relevance.

Eligibility highlights include a minimum WAM of 80 or equivalent, a strong academic background in marketing, interest in AI and service technologies, strong analytical and research skills, and the ability to meet deadlines and complete the thesis within four years.

Deadline: 31 August 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is encouraged.

How to apply: Send an expression of interest, CV, and academic transcripts to lbove@unimelb.edu.au.
