About this position
Curtin University is advertising three PhD scholarship opportunities in perovskites for thermochemical energy storage and greenhouse gas conversion, in collaboration with Woodside Energy through an ARC Linkage Project.
The project focuses on developing advanced perovskite-based materials for renewable thermal energy storage and the conversion of methane and carbon dioxide into value-added syngas. Research themes include methane partial oxidation, carbon dioxide splitting, solar-driven greenhouse gas conversion, materials characterisation, and performance optimisation. The work sits at the intersection of materials science, catalysis, chemical engineering, reaction engineering, renewable energy, and carbon utilisation.
Each scholarship provides a living stipend of up to AUD 38,440 per year for up to 3.5 years on a full-time basis. The opportunity is open to domestic applicants only. Eligible applicants should hold a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with Honours in a relevant field such as chemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering/materials science, energy or environmental engineering, resources engineering, mineral processing, or chemical physics. Applicants must also meet Curtin University’s academic and English-language requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy program.
Application deadline: 21 August 2026.
Interested candidates should review the project details and submit an Expression of Interest via the Curtin project page. Project enquiries can be directed to Dr Xiaomin Xu at Xiaomin.Xu@curtin.edu.au.
