About this position

Doctoral Researcher in Smart Energy System Modelling at the University of Luxembourg, within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the FINATRAX research group.

This PhD opening is part of the Data-Driven Energy Transition NCER Project (D2ET), which aims to accelerate the energy transition in Luxembourg by building a data-driven platform for energy planning and decision-making. The project focuses on smart energy system modelling, energy economics, renewable energy system modelling, stochastic optimization, scenario development, policy analysis, and technology evaluation. The successful candidate will design and implement an international energy system model to generate comprehensive energy-economic insights and support research and development activities.

The position is physically located at Kirchberg Campus, Luxembourg. It is a full-time fixed-term doctoral contract for 36 months, extendable up to 48 months if required. The yearly gross salary is EUR 41,976 (full time).

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in Energy Policy, Energy Economics, Information Systems, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related field; strong quantitative/computational research skills; ideally experience with numerical optimization and simulation models; proficiency in a major programming language such as Python; collaborative mindset; and B2-level proficiency in the language of the thesis.

Funding details
