About this position
The University of Bayreuth is advertising a full-time PhD position in the Professorship for Mobile Computing and Telemedicine. The project sits at the intersection of computer science, human-computer interaction, medical engineering, digital health, and telemedicine, with a focus on human-centred interaction design for medical data and AI systems, digital collaboration, telemedical care across distances, and digital health education.
The successful candidate will work on research in the core areas of the professorship, including the development and evaluation of interaction techniques and systems for collaboration and health education. The role also includes publishing in journals and presenting results at national and international conferences, as well as supervising theses and supporting teaching activities.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a good to very good master’s degree in computer science, HCI, medical engineering, or a related field. Strong programming skills (e.g. Unity, web design, Python), foundational HCI knowledge, and experience with experimental design are expected. Quantitative and qualitative research experience is valued; statistical data analysis is a plus. Excellent English is required, and the candidate should be willing to learn German within two years for social interaction with students.
Funding and contract: the position is temporary for 3 years and paid according to German public-sector pay scale E13. The post is a salaried employment position rather than a scholarship.
Application deadline: 10 August 2026. Applicants must apply online via the University of Bayreuth portal and submit a motivation letter, CV, degree certificates, at least one reference, a short summary of the master’s thesis research concept and results, and a 1–2 minute video about something they are passionate about.
Contact: Prof. Dr. Anke Reinschlüssel (anke.reinschluessel@uni-bayreuth.de).
