About this position
KTH Royal Institute of Technology is advertising postdoctoral positions in nuclear engineering linked to research on thermohydraulics and the safety of small modular reactors (SMRs). The successful candidate will contribute to several projects focused on the analysis, design support, and development of large-scale experimental facilities to be built and operated at KTH and in Oskarshamn.
The research is centered on thermohydraulic phenomena that are important for the safety of both water-cooled and liquid lead-cooled SMRs. The work is part of national projects supported by the Swedish Energy Agency and is connected to collaborative European projects, offering an international research environment with links across academia and research networks.
The position is at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. It is a temporary, full-time postdoctoral appointment for up to two years and is described as a first career step after the doctorate. The ad emphasizes a creative and dynamic environment, good working conditions, and KTH’s commitment to sustainability, equality, diversity, and equal opportunity.
Eligibility and requirements: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree, or an equivalent foreign degree, in nuclear engineering, experimental and analytical thermohydraulics, or fluid mechanics. The doctorate must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preference is given to applicants who earned the degree within the last three years and who have experience with experimental and analytical studies of thermohydraulic phenomena relevant to reactor safety. Strong communication and collaborative skills, the ability to work independently and in a team, motivation for research, and teaching experience are highlighted as advantageous. Awareness of diversity and gender equality issues is also explicitly mentioned.
Application process: Candidates must apply through KTH’s recruitment system and submit a CV, degree certificates and grade transcripts, translations into English or Swedish if needed, a short research motivation statement of up to two pages, and letters of support or contact information for 2–3 references. The deadline for complete applications is 2026-08-17.
