About this position
Justus Liebig University Giessen is advertising a postdoctoral researcher / postdoc position in neurobiology focused on olfactory control of behavior in amphibians. The project studies how smell shapes feeding behavior during developmental transitions in poison frogs, combining cellular anatomy, functional imaging, chemical analysis, field work, and behavioral experiments.
The position is based at the Institute of Animal Physiology, within the Chair of Animal Physiology and Molecular Biomedicine, Faculty of Biology and Chemistry. The research group works on developmental, cellular, and functional aspects of the olfactory system in amphibians and other aquatic vertebrates, using advanced imaging, neurophysiological, and molecular biological methods. The project is externally funded and offers the opportunity for academic qualification.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a completed master’s degree or equivalent university degree, or a doctoral degree, in biology, neurobiology, or a related natural science discipline. Experience with amphibians or other aquatic vertebrates is advantageous. Skills in fluorescence microscopy, confocal/multiphoton imaging, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and behavioral experiments are desirable. Good English skills and the ability to work independently and in a team are required.
Funding and terms: the appointment is full-time, fixed-term for 3 years, and paid according to TV-H E13, with supplementary pension benefits, child allowances, and special payments. The start date is 1 November 2026.
