About this position

PhD fellowship at the University of Copenhagen in pharmaceutical physical chemistry, focused on the molecular mechanisms of permeation enhancers in oral peptide delivery.

The project is part of the newly established ESS Lighthouse: Colloids and Interfaces in Food and Pharma (CaIFF), with interdisciplinary links to the Department of Pharmacy, Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen, and the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University.

Research topics include membrane biophysics, lipid membranes, epithelial permeation, cell-based assays, confocal microscopy, X-ray scattering, neutron scattering, surface-sensitive techniques, and quantitative analysis of membrane interactions.

The PhD student will investigate how small-molecule permeation enhancers alter membrane structure and dynamics, how these changes affect peptide translocation, and how molecular-level findings connect to cellular permeability and oral drug delivery.

The position includes visits to large-scale facilities in Lund, Grenoble, and Oxford, plus an international research stay in Urbino, Italy.

Funding: three-year PhD fellowship with salary and pension; monthly salary starts at approximately 31,800 DKK (about 4,250 EUR) plus pension.

Eligibility: applicants need a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, physical chemistry, biophysics, biotechnology, or a related field equivalent to a Danish master’s degree. Strong English skills are required; experience with membrane systems, surface science, scattering, spectroscopy, microscopy, QCM-D, ellipsometry, SPR, or permeability assays is an advantage.

Deadline: 16 August 2026, 23:59 CET. Start date: 1 November 2026.

How to apply: submit the application electronically via the Apply for position button. Include a motivation letter, CV, MSc diploma and transcript, publication list if possible, and references/recommendations if possible.
