About this position

This postdoctoral position at Chalmers University of Technology focuses on the structural characterisation of therapeutic nanoparticles using microfluidics, small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), and X-ray scattering. The project is located in the Division of Molecular Bioscience, Department of Life Sciences, and is centered on developing microfluidic chips and experimental workflows to study lipid- and polymer-based nanocarriers under flow and under biologically relevant conditions.

The research sits within the Holme group, where the team studies lipid-based nanoparticles, extracellular vesicles, and membrane biophysics using advanced biophysical methods. The project is collaborative and links Chalmers with the Stubelius group, ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in the UK, and the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund. The work aims to establish structure–function relationships for advanced therapeutic delivery systems, with particular emphasis on how surface functionalisation, protein corona formation, and glycosylation influence nanoparticle structure and biological function.

The position is suitable for a researcher with a doctoral degree in a relevant area such as soft matter, biophysics, materials science, nanomedicine, chemistry, or a related discipline. Strong English communication skills, experience in microfluidics for nanoparticle characterisation, analytical ability, and the capacity to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams are essential. Experience with neutron or X-ray scattering, in vitro efficacy studies, molecular dynamics simulations, and Python will strengthen the application, but prior SANS expertise is not required.

The appointment is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, and involves occasional travel to Lund for beamtime experiments at ESS. The contract is a temporary full-time position for two years with a possible one-year extension. The role offers the opportunity to supervise master’s and/or PhD students to some extent and is presented as strong preparation for careers in academia, industry, or the public sector.
